Abstract text: Our study concerning the incidence of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer covers the 2005-2009 time span, the data being collected from the Histopathology Exams (HPE) registers. During this period, 42,038 Ob-Gyn patients were admitted in our hospital and 7,997 HPE were performed (19.02% of all patients). CIN lesions were discovered in 583 cases (7.29% of all HPEs) and Cervical Intraglandular Dysplasia (CIG) in 17 cases (0.21%). CIN I, CIN II and CIN III lesions represented 67.07%, 18.52%, and 14.41% of the total CIN cases, respectively. The mean patients’ age was 45.17± 10.12 years for all CIN cases, 44.40±9.06 years, 47.30±11.26, and 45.04±12.02 years for CIN I, CIN II, and CIN III, respectively. The mean patients’ age for the CIG case was 50.18±13.02 years. There were 9 cases (1.54% of all CIN cases) of microinvasive carcinomas combined with CIN III lesions and one case of endometrial cancer combined with CIN III lesions. Early detection of CIN lesions through adequate clinical and paraclinical exams is of utmost importance for preventing cervical cancer, which remains a serious and frequent health problem in Romania.
