| Abstract text: | Scaphoid fractures represent 70% of all carpal bone fractures and internal fixation of these fractures has always been considered technically demanding. Internal fixation of scaphoid fractures avoids the problems associated with prolonged plaster immobilization and is greatly facilitated by the use of specially designed headless bone screw, such as the Herbert screw (which was introduced in orthopaedic practice in 1984). The recent development of the cannulated scaphoid screw (Twin Fix, Herb cann screw) has made the minimally-invasive stabilization of the scaphoid fractures the technique of choice for the treatment of the majority of acute scaphoid fractures; this mini-invasive technique (which was first performed in 2003) bringing with it all the advantages of the internal fixation without disadvantages of open surgery (regarding to devascularization of the scaphoid). We describe here the our first result after fixation of acute scaphoid fracture with mini-invasive technique, using a Twin Fix System. |
