Abstract text: The colon is the part of the digestive system where the waste material is stored. The rectum is the end of the colon adjacent to the anus. Colorectal cancer is a malignant tumor arising from the inner wall of the large intestine. Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer includes growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Risk factor includes heredity, colon polyps and long standing ulcerative colitis. Most of the cancers of the large intestine are believed to have developed from polyps. The purpose of this study is to assess the distribution of this type of cancer regarding age, sex, localization and endoscopical aspect.
Materials and methods: A retrospective study has been made on 90 patients, admitted in Clinic Emergency County Hospital, Gastroenterological Clinic, between 16 months: august 2008-december 2009. These patients were evaluated and diagnosed using colonoscopy and biopsy methods. Results and conclusions: At the end of the study it has been proven that 60 % of the patients were male gender and the other 40% female. The second aspect regarding localization has shown that the lesions are 80% situated at the rectum and sigmoid region.
