Abstract text: Sexually transmitted disease (STD), known as sexually transmitted infection (STI) or venereal disease (VD), is an illness that has a significant probability of transmission between humans by means of human sexual behavior. In 2009, 189 patients were registered in Arad County. Most cases occurred in 20-34 years old group. The most common diagnoses were recurrent Latent syphilis -66.1% and gonococcal urethritis – 25.9%, mainly in men (p = 0.0002). There is no significant association between education level and STD in our 189 cases, even if more than 33.3% were graduated twelve classes. There is a significant association between personal history of a prior STD and sexual behavior, in terms of a higher frequency in heterosexuals (p = 0.0144). In this regard, for 33.3% at least one symptom was present, 29.1% were positive in active epidemiological investigation, 15.9% during employment screening, 12.7% in pregnancy (p < 0.0001). Even if STD incidence is 4.13‰, for syphilis and gonorrhea, in Arad County, we have strong reason to believe that the real number of patients is much higher and our concern is antenatal development of a child.
