Abstract text: Since 1921 Latarjet showed that the main and only venous supply of the pylorus is made through the hepatic branches. The main anterior nerve of the lesser curvature of the stomach does not supply the pyloric sphincter. The anterior vagal trunk is divided in 3-6 mainly branches which can form or not the anterior gastric plexus. The most important branch is the mainly posterior nerve of the lesser curvature of the stomach (posterior nerve of Latarjet). Together with the posterior branches it supplies the posterior wall of the stomach, excepting the pylorus, and the pre pylorus segment. Using the macroscopic dissection method in 35 adult human (20 males and 15 females) formalized specimens we found the posterior nerve of Latarjet in 13 cases (38%). The results of Skandalakis (1986) are correlated with ours, meaning that the posterior gastric division forms the posterior nerve of Latarjet. This division is ending frequently above, at the lesser curvature stomach level, in comparison with the anterior gastric division. Only in few cases (4) can achieve the pylorus. Concluding, we can say that the posterior nerve of Latarjet is present quite frequently in approximately one third in our cases (11).
