Abstract text: For preventive reasons and according to the law, the active population in Romania is under medical observation during the entire period of employment. For each occupational group, especially for those under a certain job related stress, there are criteria concerning the state of health that have to be fulfilled at the moment of employment and throughout the whole period of activity. Thus, the timely discovery and proper treatment of any health problems is made possible. The exception is represented by the political “decision-makers”, namely the public servants who are elected by the people and have the duty to interpret and apply the law within a certain territory during their mandate. Unfortunately there are no special institutions for the formation of politicians, or as we call them – “decision-makers”. The persons running for decisional functions can have any level of education and any profession. Our belief is that the success of an elected candidate in performing his function depends also on his state of health. At present time, there are no regulations concerning the selection of those candidates according to health criteria. Regulation of political “decision-makers” health surveillance, starting from the preelection period, is an attribute of occupational medicine and also a matter of conscience for the entire medical body.
