Abstract text: Introduction: Pulmonary cancer permanently continues to be a reality of the medical practice. Lately, the numerous cases make us believe in a recrudescence of this disease, determined by the stronger and numerous noxa agents, so of the risk factors, out of which smoking is at the forefront. Material and method: The study has been made on a number of 329 patients in the Pneumophtisiology Clinic of the Clinical Hospital for Contagious Diseases and Pneumophtisiology “Dr. Victor Babes” Craiova, during January 2007-December 2009, the investigation in order to diagnose bronchial-lung cancer has been made at the bronchoscopy department of the hospital. The diagnosis has been put on an adequate number of smears out of sputum. We have also made the cytological exam on the aspirate and/or on the bronchial enema , with or without brushing, harvested during the bronchoscopical exam out of which enema were made. All the smears, both from the sputum and from the bronchial aspirate, have been colored using the May-Grünwald-Giemsa (MGG) technique. We have also made bronchial brushing where it was possible. The smear from the bronchial brushing has also been colored with MGG. Results and conclusions: As a result of the study we have carried out, on the material processed this way from the sputum we have observed a malignity of 57% (grade IV-OMS classification). For the smears from the bronchial aspirate (bronchial enema with or without brushing) we had 83% positive diagnosis; for those with positive diagnosis, treatment has been started. As a result of the examination of the bioptical material we have obtained positive results for 97.3% of the cases. As the histopathological diagnosis is primordial, the difference until 100% were the five cases of the negative lung carcinoma both for the histological and cytological exam that actually showed interstitial lung carcinoma, lung cancers or metastasis of other origin than the lung one, which have been confirmed through other exams (Rx, ultrasonography and other paraclinic examinations).
