| Abstract text: | Rectal cancer has many medical and surgical complications such as: hemorrhages, ulcerations, infections, perforations and fistulas when it comes to the loss of substance and in case of proliferations we have hemorrhages, protrusions and intestinal occlusions. We present the special case of a 55 years old female patient diagnosed with rectal cancer relapse associated with secondary complication: recto-vaginal fistula. The patient has been admitted to the Gastroenterology Clinic of Arad Clinical Emergency County Hospital on March, 2010. In 2009 she was admitted to our hospital because of bloody stool. Endoscopic examination revealed rectal cancer. Thoracic Rx and abdominal ultrasonography have not shown signs of metastasis. After the rectal cancer was resected, unfortunately the patient was not carefully monitored. Resection of the rectal lesion leads to an improvement of gastrointestinal transit and of the patients’ comfort. After 4 months the patient developed a recto-vaginal fistula which was treated by a second surgical intervention. After the surgical procedure, the recto-vaginal fistula was closed and the patient has not shown any specific symptomatology until 2 months ago. The special thing about this case is the appearance of a recto-vaginal fistula on a surgical scar present on the rectum (surgical intervention for rectal cancer with simple excision without a radical cleaning of the perirectal ganglion system) with ulcerations, and the evolutions and prognosis of the patient. Using the colonoscopy investigations and by taking biopsies it was revealed that, unfortunately, the ulceration on the rectal surgical scar confirmed a rectal cancer relapse, a rectal carcinoma. |
