Abstract text: Dyslipidemia is a disruption in the amount of lipids in the blood. In western societies, most dyslipidemias are hyperlipidemias; that is, an elevation of lipids in the blood, often due to diet and lifestyle. It is often caused or exacerbated by uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, obesity, and sedentary habits, all of which are more prevalent in industrialized societies than in developing nations. In epidemiologic and interventional studies, hypertriglyceridemia is a risk factor for coronary artery disease. Prevalence of dyslipidemia in general population between 20-60 years old in Romania is 55% (high cholesterol and/or triglycerides levels and/or low HDL level). We have put under clinical observation a number of 327 patients with dyslipidemia, during a period of 2 years (2008-2009). Complete clinical exam and blood samples were collected every 3 months in order to measure cholesterol, triglycerides levels. The study has taken place in Dr. Turcin Clinic. Applying specific methods that we consider essential in managing dyslipidemia we establish the efficiency of those methods (lifestyle optimization, pharmacotherapy, specific education, observation, efficiency evaluation). We compare the moderns approach with only pharmacotherapy.
Attentive patient observation using the methods stated above have shown a increase compliance from the patient and improved lipid blood levels.
