| Abstract text: | Overactive bladder (OAB) it is a symptomatic complex with increasingly higher prevalence by age. Quality of life is significantly impaired by altering aspects of physical activity, psychosocial and sexual activity. Epidemiological studies indicate a higher prevalence in women (50% for 60 years old) than males (only 8% over 60 years old). 198 cases were analyzed for Overactive bladder, 67 female-33.8%, and 131 male – 66.2%, to establish a causal relationship between this dysfunction and urinary incontinence. This dysfunction is more common in men in the study group (p<0.0001) explained by urology profile of surgery. Most cases were recorded in 69-74 age group, with the extreme 6-91 years. Fourteen patients had diabetes - 2 women and 12 men (p = 0.0162). Overactive bladder occurs in 64.8% of men in the group (P = 0.0003). Even so the relative risks for urinary infection occurs 1.76 times more in women compared to men, and urinary incontinence is a risk of 3.21 times more frequently for women with overactive bladder compared to men. |
