Abstract: | RADIOGRAPHIC LOCALIZATION OF PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS. Pulmonary tuberculosis is found predominantly in the lung apices. In diabetics it has been suggested that tuberculosis tended to occur predominantly in the lower lobes. In our study, to evaluate the radiographic location of pulmonary tuberculosis in diabetic patients, the medical records of 20 (16 men, 4 women) patients who had active pulmonary tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus were reviewed. Twenty (16 men, 4 women) nondiabetic patients who had active pulmonary tuberculosis served as the control group. Multiple lobe involvement was the predominant chest roentgenographic finding in both diabetics and nondiabetics with pulmonary tuberculosis. Since tuberculosis and diabetes frequently coexist; diabetes should be suspected in patients with active tuberculosis as well as including tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of a chest roentgenographic abnormality in the diabetic population. |
